way to look at discrimination index is if you go to question report and go to discrimination index there's actually multiple reports that you can run against your exam to calculate reports on discrimination index so for example suppose we want to look at the 2019 exam and we're just going to run a histogram and let's make the histogram a little bit narrower so here is actually a histogram of all your questions broken down by their discrimination index so you can see that you have two questions that has a fairly high discrimination index you also have two questions that has discrimination index that's less than zero which actually means that good student actually get it wrong more likely than bad student getting it right so and if you use oasis to write the questions you can actually click on the two and then you will be able to see you will be able to see exactly who wrote the question so here you can see that these are the two questions that has a discrimination that's slightly less than zero and they actually know the author that wrote them so you can actually grab the data and then maybe the author that tends to write questions that has a low quality you might just want them to skip the next round of question writing whereas if you click on here and these are the two authors that definitely write some good questions and you probably want to make sure that they're invited in the next round so as you can see here not only can you run a histogram of the discrimination index against your exam you can also find out who wrote them if you're using oasis to write the questions and just decide which question writers to invite back next year
Video Summary
This video explains how to analyze and evaluate discrimination index in exams using a question report feature. The discrimination index helps identify questions that are poorly written or biased. By running a histogram on the 2019 exam, the video demonstrates how to visually analyze the distribution of questions based on their discrimination index. It shows that there are both high and low discrimination questions, with negative discrimination suggesting that good students answer wrongly more often than bad students. Using Oasis, the video highlights the ability to identify the authors of questions with low or high discrimination, allowing for informed decisions on inviting certain authors for future question writing.
