Now, suppose you have an item bank already, and you already have questions in the item bank that has been finalized. So in this example, under item bank, I have an item bank called cardiovascular questions. If I click on it, you will see that I have 116 questions, and they have all been finalized. So this tutorial will not talk about how to finalize your question, but we're just going to assume that the question has already either been manually entered by the administrator, which will automatically get finalized, or they have already went through the review process, and the administrator has finalized them. But in either case, suppose all the questions have been finalized here. In order to create an assessment exam, it's fairly simple. Go to courses, click on add a course, and select course type, and select assessment exam. Here I'm just going to say cardiovascular exam 2023. I'm just going to give it a code, 2023. One thing that's most important is that normally, you would not do track topic, but in this particular case, you will have to track topic, because the questions need to come from the item bank, where questions have already been mapped to topics, and this allows the system to put guardrails on what questions you can add. Depending on your system, you might have another row here that says topic family, but just if you have more than one topic trees. In my system, there's only one topic tree, so I'm just going to select the three topics that I have for the item bank. I'm going to click on next. I'm going to skip the credit page, and I'm also going to skip the pricing page, and here is the same mechanics that you're probably already familiar with when you set up any sort of on-demand course, including certificate, evaluation, and so on and so forth. We're just going to keep assessment checked, and then what we're going to do is we're going to get to extended wizard in OASIS that allows you to set up the exam. There are two modes, learning mode and exam mode. Learning mode allows the user to see the remediation right away. As soon as they answer the question, we'll tell the user whether they get it right or wrong. Exam mode essentially waits until the user submits the entire exam. You can check both and let the user make the selection, but we typically don't recommend this just because the user will get confused. So in this example, I'm just going to select learning mode, and I'm just going to select 116 questions simply because I know I have 116 questions in the item bank. Actually I'm just going to select 100 to highlight the fact that you don't have to pick all the questions from the item bank. I'm going to click on next. So here's where you're going to set up the rules of your exam. I'm going to pick the most commonly used settings, such as have a passing grade of let's say 100%. Give user one reset, which means they will have two attempts, and then we'll also let the user do the exam for fun after they have already finished the exam. So this is selected by default, and we refer to it as reset the exam for fun. So we're going to let everybody have the same set of questions, and we're also going to give them a static list of questions. So we're not going to limit the time on the exam. So I'm going to click on next. I'm going to skip this step because I'm going to highlight how to populate questions from the item bank directly into this product. So I'm going to click on skip. And most likely you want to uncheck this box so people cannot print your book or print your exam or the answer book. Now that I have already finished the set of the exam, I'm going to put some questions in there. So the easiest way to put questions in there is I'm going to click on questions. I'm going to use the filter to say give me all the questions that was written in this item bank. As you can see, there's 116 questions, and what you can do is you can do this. You can say copy question IDs. Here is 116 question IDs matching whatever is returned. Obviously I'm just going to copy it. Note that I'm basically grabbing this list of question IDs without really paying attention to whether they are suited for the exam or not. I'm just going to say I have 116 questions in the item bank, give me their IDs. And because I only need 100, I'm just going to randomly delete 16 just so that I will end up with 100. So I'm just going to delete one. So there are six here, so I'm going to delete that. And then I'm just going to need to delete 10 more. So give me one second while I move my notepad around. So 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. So I delete 10, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. So now I should have exactly 100 questions left. So then what I'm going to do is I'm going to go to the dashboard, go to courses right here. This is the product I was working on. Notice this is the exam product and I need to click on the exam portion of the product right here. And then I'm going to click on populate questions. So keep in mind that I have already in my notepad 100 question IDs. And I'm going to copy it and I'm going to say update with question IDs. I'm going to paste and I'm going to click on add. So it looks like the system is warning me that some of the question IDs is not acceptable. So some of the questions are not finalized, which is a good opportunity for me to stress that you cannot put a question that is not finalized in an exam. And this question cannot be added to the exam because it falls outside of the topic. So you can see here this is in added status and the category is unspecified. So as you can see, because when I set up the product, I specified exactly which three topic is allowed for the product. The system actually helped me avoid adding the wrong questions. So for this one, for the time being, I'm just going to delete this one because this is a unnecessary question. And then what I'm going to do is I'm going to rerun my query this time. And I'm just going to look for a question that has been finalized. So now there's 104. So instead of 116 earlier, it's 104. So I'm going to do this process one more time. So remember this time, I have 104 IDs. I'm just going to delete four, there we go, so that I have 100. So let's try this again. I'm going to click on Add. So now everything's good. Please make sure you click on Confirm Add. So now this exam has 100 questions and I've already said I do need 100 questions. So this is good. All right, so now what I'm going to do is I'm going to navigate back and I'm going to publish the exam. So keep in mind, I am publishing the exam using the most common default setting. We're not going to talk about each setting in this tutorial and what they do because it will make the tutorial too long. So I'm just going to publish all the way to the end and then your exam has been published. So keep in mind, in this example, the questions live in the item bank. It does not live in the exam itself. As a matter of fact, I can run through the exact same process. I can add a new one. Let's say small, right? And I can say that, actually let's do this, same three topics, okay? Everything's the same. And the reason we call it small is I'm going to say this is a 10 question exam, okay? And in this case, I'm going to make it exam mode just so they can see the difference. And this one, I can make it 50%, no reset, okay? And so this one, I'm only going to update with 10 question IDs. So I'm going to say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, there we go. So now notice what I have done is I have created two exams. One has 100 questions, another one has 10 questions, right? And if I click on these 10 questions, notice the system tells you this was in the item bank and it is used in two assessments. So what we're trying to do is we're trying to highlight how easy it is to reuse questions across different product without having to rewrite the questions and knowing that there's only one copy of the question, okay? So now I have officially created two exams, one in learning mode, one in exam mode. So let's do what I always recommend, which is actually test your product. So I'm just going to click on access for the 100 question. So notice this is 100 questions and then you can start and I definitely recommend that you go through this, right? So now let's just answer to say this is learning mode. When you answer, you get feedback right away, okay? So this is how you go about it. Now let's go to the exam mode to show that the small one is the exam mode. Click on it. So same set of questions, not same set, 10 questions, much smaller. But this one, notice it doesn't say check answer, it says submit, and then the user had to reach all the way to the end to get graded. Once again, highly recommend that you go through this on your own and definitely test it. Definitely test your setup at least for the first few exams so you're familiar with the steps.
