In this video tutorial, we'll go over how to configure banners for a public catalog. As always, go to the Dashboard, Administrator, and go to Public Catalog Settings. Then go to Banner Settings. What we're going to do is we're going to add a new banner. There are two types of banners that are allowed in OASIS. A banner that takes users to an external site. If you want to advertise a product that has a marketing page external to OASIS, or you can take the user to a course that is hosted in OASIS. For the first example, we're going to take the user to an external marketing site. The next step in the wizard asks for the banner URL. So we're just going to type in a URL that is doing the marketing for the product. It could be a live meeting. It could be a comprehensive description of a product. Then we're going to select a background image. Note that the background image needs to be 1200 by 125 in order for the display to look nice on OASIS. In this case, we click on Select, and we're going to select Banner 3 from our local computer. You can add additional message on the banner, but since our banner already has graphics on it, we'll keep as is. You can put an end date to your banner if you want to timebox the banner display. But in our example, we'll leave it empty so that the banner will remain active until we delete it. We're going to click on Save, and this banner is officially published. Notice that at the bottom, there's a preview of what the banner will look like. Now I'm going to jump over to the public catalog page and just hit Refresh. Now you can see the banner is at the top, and when I click on it, the user gets forwarded to a landing page that does more marketing for the particular course. In addition to taking a user to an external site, we can also advertise a course that's already in OASIS. This is if you're launching a product in OASIS and you want to draw attention to it beyond what a featured course will draw attention to. We have some built-in background images. If you select these, you probably want to overlay the course information. Otherwise, the background will just be a single color image. Then what we're going to do is we're just going to select which course we're going to advertise as a banner. Once again, I also have a start date as today and an end date as null so that it will be displayed forever until I disable it. After I click on Save, you can see that this banner is displayed. It has a unit color background, which is very bland, but it does overlay the course information on here. If you don't have a graphic department to create the banner for you, OASIS can give you a fairly simple banner very quickly. We have set up the banner as administrator on the public catalog page. When the user comes to your site, they can go to the banner. When they click on it, they will be taken to the page that describes the course within OASIS. Then they can log in and start doing purchase.
Video Summary
The video tutorial discusses how to configure banners for a public catalog in OASIS. There are two types of banners allowed: ones that redirect users to an external marketing site and ones that advertise a course within OASIS. For the first type, a URL is entered along with a background image, and additional messages can be added if desired. End dates can also be set to timebox the banner display. The tutorial demonstrates how the banner appears on the public catalog page and redirects users to the corresponding marketing or course page within OASIS. It also mentions that OASIS can provide simple banners if graphic design assistance isn't available. No credits were mentioned in the video.
