Hey, everybody. In this quick overview, we will go over the design philosophy of OASIS when it comes to the catalog page for the learning management system. As you can see on the screen, there are actually three different layouts currently, and we are actually adding more layout as we grow. OASIS is designed to separate functionality from display in the sense that as administrator, you simply decide what is a site banner, rotating banner, what are all the search criterias, what are other feature courses, and then you pick which layout you want. And depending on which layout you want, what you selected will automatically move depending on the layout you selected. For example, you don't have to have rotating banners, but if you do, then the rotating banner will show up here for Explorer, show up here for Shared View, but show up at the bottom for Stacked View. So that if you don't enable rotating banner, you don't have to worry about it, but if you do enable rotating banner, you know exactly where it's going to show up based on the catalog layout that you selected. In later videos, we will focus on how to set everything up as Explorer View, and then we are going to show how everything that's set up in the Explorer View will change when you go to the Shared View, and how that will change when you go to the Stacked View. But in either case, the idea here is you do not lose any functionalities just based on which layout you selected. You only end up with a different layout, where the positioning of different features are based on the layout you want. One downside of this is if you really like some element of the Shared View and some element of the Stacked View, it is very difficult to create a hybrid between the two view because each different layout have a distinct hard-coded location and positioning for each element of a catalog. Thank you.
Video Summary
In this video, the speaker discusses the design philosophy of OASIS's catalog page for the learning management system. They explain that OASIS allows administrators to customize the layout by selecting various features such as site banners, rotating banners, search criteria, and featured courses. The selected features will automatically adjust their position based on the chosen layout. The video also mentions upcoming videos that will demonstrate how the setup changes between different views. However, it is mentioned that creating a hybrid layout combining elements from different views is challenging due to the distinct hard-coded positioning for each catalog element. No credits are given in the transcript.
