This video tutorial will show how to set up a more complicated live course. So instead of a live course that simply allows users to register, in this live course we will set up a live course that requires a pre-test, some pre-course learning content, and post-course assessment, and a post-course evaluation. So you will have much more things for the learner to do in this particular example. As always, log in as administrator and go to the course tab and click on add course. We're going to add a live course, and we're going to give the title ASGE Recognized Industry Associated or Area Training Program, and let's say this is November 2017 course. We're going to add code, and depending on your system's configuration, you might not need to do product code or store code. We're going to click on next, and in this case, we're going to set up the system as if the system would require external registration. So we're going to flip to external, and we're going to put in the URL. So we're going to put a particular URL that user will get sent to when they try to register for this event. Notice that we are specifically saying that we are not using OASIS built-in registration facility. We're using an external registration facility. Typically when we do this, there should be a way for the external facility where registration takes place to notify OASIS when someone registers. Even though the registration happens in a different system, we still need to set the date and time for the course so that OASIS internally knows when the course starts and when the course ends. And this is very important because OASIS will give users access to different parts of the live course based on the start and end of the course. So let's say the course starts at 9, and it goes until, say, 9 p.m., so 12 hours. And then we're going to put the location, let's just say lobby area, okay? And then we're going to click on next. So imagine this course offers credit, so we're going to say 10, 5, and this is the instruction that users read when they claim credit. Please only claim the actual hours spent on the course. You can download your transcript here. Okay. I'm going to click on next. So here's the price. Notice that because we are doing external registration, the price below is actually not charged by OASIS because the user will be paying for the course when they register, which is happening externally. The price here is only used for display purpose when they're on the catalog, okay? So as I mentioned earlier, in this particular example, we're going to make the course slightly more complicated. So the course will contain a legal acknowledgment, a pretest, some content, a post-test, and a course evaluation, and a certificate. So suppose that is the steps that we want the user to go through. Essentially, before the course, user must take a pretest, and any content that we post about the event information, user will be able to see, and any content that we upload, user will be able to access as soon as they register without waiting for the course to start. After the course concludes, the post-exam will be made available, and after the user finishes, they will need to fill out the evaluation, and there's going to be a certificate waiting for them. So suppose that's the structure of our more complicated version of a live course, we click on next, and now the shell of the course has been set up. Next, we're going to fill in a little bit of information. So we're going to go to the info, oh this has already been set up, we're going to go to, so we're going to click on detail, and we now see the course, shell has been created, but no content has been populated. So we're going to quickly populate some content, illustration purpose, which is going to clone the wording from some existing content, because we are not really showing a tutorial on how to copy and paste text, so event information, we can add some instructions, please print out your badge, for example. Instructions are already set, as we mentioned, this session is strictly used for OASIS to know when the course starts, and when the course ends, so that the learner will have access to the content based on where the course is, whether it's pre-course, during the course, or post-course. And let's say we're going to add some content that the user can read. So we are going to just add a PDF, pre-course handout, for example, if that's the only thing that we need to make available to the learner, and we're going to add exam to the learner, so that they will have to take the test before they show up. So it's going to be a pre and post, and for the post test, we're going to do exam mode, and let's say there is a 50, 80% passing score for the post test, and let's say we are going to require 30 questions, we're going to randomize, and we're going to give people two resets, essentially three attempts to pass the post test. After I set up the exam, I can populate the questions, I can either take the questions from the item bank, if the system has the item bank configured, where all the questions resides in, so that I can reuse the question easily, or I can manually create all the questions. We're going to skip this step, and go directly to the evaluation, and we can create brand new evaluation questions, or we can use existing evaluation questions. For illustration purpose, we're just going to use existing evaluation questions, because we only want to show the mechanics of how to set things up, instead of actually paying attention to what evaluation questions we're using. So we're going to now just add a few questions for the pre and post test of this course, so that the learner will have something to take. To save time, we're not going to add one question at a time, we're just going to import it from an existing set of questions. In reality, you might have to add questions one at a time. So now we have imported the question, we're ready to publish it. So now we have officially published the course that has pre and post test, a simple content for illustration and evaluation. And this course will require external registration, that's happening on November 1st. So now let's see what the learner experience looks like.
Video Summary
This video tutorial explains how to set up a more complex live course. The course includes a pre-test, pre-course learning content, a post-course assessment, and a post-course evaluation. The tutorial guides the user on how to create the course in the system, set the date and time, add a URL for external registration, set the price for display purposes, and add content such as a legal acknowledgment, pre-test, course material, post-test, course evaluation, and certificate. The tutorial demonstrates how to populate the course with content, including instructions, a PDF handout, and exam questions. Finally, it shows the learner experience after the course is published. No credits are granted.
