Video Transcription
There are two things about discussion form that sometimes is a little subtle, but I will explain them here. The first is that if you have any exam component in your product, discussion form will be locked until the user finishes the exam. And that is just because having a discussion form opens the opportunity for someone to post the answer for someone else to see. Which is why discussion form is always disabled from the user who have not finished the exam component. If your product does not have an exam component, this does not apply. The second is there is a slight confusion oftentimes between where is the discussion form and where is the FAQ. So if I turn on FAQ, you will see FAQ works slightly different. FAQ shows up here and then you can ask a FAQ. You can say, when is the next class? Notice that the learner asked the question, administrator answered the question. So I'm going to switch over to administrator view to show you. Now that I have the FAQ, I can go to FAQ and the administrator answer the question. Note that discussion forum is between the students with the administrator able to moderate. FAQ is one direction. The student asked the question, the administrator answered the question. Next class is September 1st, 2021. If I post the answer, then the student will see it. But note that the student will only see what the administrator replied because the student cannot exchange information using FAQ.
Video Summary
The video discusses two key points related to discussion forums. Firstly, if a product includes an exam component, the discussion form will be locked until the user completes the exam to prevent answer sharing. This rule doesn't apply if there is no exam component in the product. Secondly, there is often confusion between the discussion form and the FAQ section. The FAQ section enables users to ask questions, which are then answered by the administrator. In contrast, the discussion forum allows students to interact with each other, moderated by the administrator. The video emphasizes that the FAQ section is one-directional, with only the administrator providing answers. Any information shared via FAQ can only be seen by the administrator and the student who posted the question. No credits were mentioned in the transcript.
