Now that we have talked about evergreen recommendation, it's only logical that we also touch on the blacklisted recommendation. So blacklisted recommendations are a little bit odd in the sense that you're saying, I don't want to recommend some courses that would have been recommended otherwise. And your first instinct might be, why would I not recommend a course to my learners if it's reasonable to recommend that, especially if it matches common learner recommendation rule, right? Well, maybe you have a course that is a free trial or a sample course that you are promoting to get the user to buy the bigger ticket item, and you don't want to end up recommending a sample course because you want to recommend the real course. So that's really the biggest case where you want to do a blacklist recommendation. And what I'm going to do is I'm just going to pretend, so this is Jennifer Rambo. I'm going to pretend that immunology context, let's do this. Let me pretend addressing, because I'm not going to do this one because in a way I'm making this an evergreen recommendation, right? So you just have to be careful. You don't want to recommend things as an evergreen recommendation and as a blacklisted recommendation at the same time, because you can't tell the system to go make a left turn and right turn at the same time, right? So but let's pretend that this is the course that I don't want the user to, I don't ever want to recommend because it's a, pretend it's a sample course, it's a sampler, right? So what I'm going to do is I'm just going to add it. So it's addressing, there we go, addressing, there we go. And notice that if you blacklist something, you can add a note so that you remember why you blacklisted something. So this is a sample course, okay? You can click on save. So idea here is now that I have added a course to the blacklist, which means I would never recommend this course, and you have an option note to remind yourself why it was added to the blacklist. So now, remember, I used to have this course for Jennifer Rainbow. If I just refresh the screen, it is gone, right? And it is gone because it's on the blacklist, and I would never recommend a blacklisted course on the recommendation list. So blacklist is fairly easy to understand. You just have to remember what you have added to the blacklist and why you have added to the blacklist. Thank you.
Video Summary
Blacklisted recommendations involve excluding certain courses from being suggested to learners, even if they might normally be suitable. This approach is useful for avoiding the recommendation of sample or trial courses when you want to focus on promoting more substantial offerings. Once a course is blacklisted, it won't appear in recommendations, helping maintain strategic promotion goals. Additionally, notes can be added to track the reason for blacklisting a course. It's important not to conflict blacklisted items with evergreen recommendations, as it contradicts the system's guidance.
