Managing Courses' Meta Data using Excel file-1 - What is course meta data and how they are used?

This set of video tutorials will talk about how to update metadata for your courses in batches.  But before we talk about how to update the metatags, we would like to discuss what they are and why they are useful.  Any course that you have, I'm just going to click on one of the courses that I have already clicked on.  Under metadata, you will see that you can actually manually enter key value pairs.  This allows you to self-organize your courses by appending, for example, activity type and then a value. And some of these can have the same key, but different values.  As you can see here, there's a multiple target audience listed here. And they are referred to as explicit metadata.  And you also have implicit metadata, which is generated by OASIS automatically based on what OASIS knows about your courses.  In this case, I know the credit type that you offer, the price that you're charging, so on and so forth.  Now, the importance of metadata comes in multiple ways, and we're not going to be able to cover all of them. But in the simplest form, you can organize this for your own benefit.  And these courses are going to – the metadata will help with the catalog searching if they happen to search on something that is of value in the metatech.  In addition, under course groups, you can actually set up a dynamic course group where the rules of a particular course that goes in there is based on the course metadata.  So this allows you to say, I want to create a course group where all the activity type is a particular value.  So as you can see, having metadata not only help you organize your product, it will also help user find your product.  And it also allows you to create course groups based on the value they have for their metadata, which then can be used for cataloging purpose, can be used for permissioning purpose, or just a variety of other reporting purpose.  So now that we understand what metadata can be used for, we're going to talk about how to update the metadata. Thank you.
