Now that we have explained how the template works conceptually, we're going to go into a concrete example of how the template is determined. We're going to explore this option by using a product that's a properly named first test product. So when we go to the first test product, in order to check what certificate is being used, it's useful to go to manage feature and make sure the certificate is selected. If you do not select the certificate, that activity does not produce a PDF for the user to use. Now under configuration, if I scroll down, I will see that the system based certificate is in effect because I do not have a course specific template configured and I do not have a certificate for the credit type that the course offers. So without doing anything, you will use the default certificate that is configured for all the courses in the system. And I can click on edit to make edits of that certificate or I can always go to dashboard on the left hand side in the transcript setting and see the default template. This is a vanilla template that is very plain looking just to get you started. Now let's see what the user sees to confirm that is correct. So we're going to go to first test product. We're going to download the certificate. And let's just confirm the certificate is based on the template that's global setting. So here we go. As you can see, this is a plain looking certificate that is based off the system wide setting. I'm going to close that and then we're going to jump back to say, okay, I would like a certificate that is based on the credit type. If that's what you want, what you should do is go to dashboard, go to credit type, and for the credit type the course offers, click on edit and give it some HTML. Oasis onboarding team can help you configure the template if you're not familiar with HTML, but right now I'm going to copy and paste some HTML in here. Okay, I have some HTML. Go to design. So this is what I want the template to look like. I'm going to click on update. Then I'm going to navigate to the course and first test product just to confirm the system recognize that I have a credit based template. As you can see here, the system based is no longer in effect. What's in effect is the template that's mapped to the credit I'm offering. So now if I jump over to the learner side and take a look at the certificate, I see a much, much different certificate. So let's do that. Okay, so it's open. I can see the certificate look a lot different. So this is how you can set a template that look different based on the credit type that it offers. Suppose this particular product you're offering is joint provided with another entity and you would like to have their information on the certificate as well. So we can go down and this time we're going to click on edit for the custom certificate and copy and paste some HTML to describe a template that is only going to be used for this course. So I'm going to copy over the HTML. Okay, so I'm going to copy the HTML. So here is a template that's going to look drastically different. I'm going to click on update. So now what happens if I scroll down, I will see that system correctly recognize that I have a custom template in effect for this course and it no longer uses a credit level template or the system template. And to drive home this change, I'm going to switch the learner view and take a look at this product, take a look at the certificate. So now that certificate is downloaded, you can see that it looks a lot different than the certificate that was based on the credit type because the course specific template is overriding everything else. So this hopefully shows the three levels of template at your disposal depending on how you want to set it up. Now, 99% of the time system-wide certificate should be enough, but we do offer more than enough just to make sure that any type of certificate you need to generate is available to you. And if you're not sure, please reach out to support and we'll help you configure these.
Video Summary
In the video, the speaker explains how to determine and customize certificate templates for a learning management system. They provide a concrete example using a test product. By accessing the manage feature and selecting the appropriate certificate, users can generate a PDF certificate. Without selecting a certificate, the system will use the default template for all courses. By configuring a course-specific template or a credit-based template, users can customize the appearance of the certificate. The speaker demonstrates how to create and apply custom templates, including one for a joint-provided course with another entity. The video emphasizes that the system offers various levels of template customization options. It advises users to contact support for assistance with template configuration.
