Video Transcription
In this video tutorial, we'll show a simple example of a course that is listed in OASIS but the user will be forwarded to another platform to actually do the course. So, as administrator, I'm going to click on add a course, I'm going to scroll down and click on external course. So let's call it how to learn how to play football. I'm going to make a football and I'm just going to, don't worry about the sequence, it's just something on my demo site. One thing to notice is that you can say auto-complete, which means the learner will be marked as complete as soon as they start the course in the LMS. Or you can say manual complete, which means they will do the course in the other system, but the administrator have to mark the user as complete at some point in the future. So I'm just going to select this as an example, I'm not going to put any credit, I'm not going to put any special URL for purchasing, and I'm not going to put any price, so this is free. What I will do is I will have a button here, external URL, so that the user will be able to purchase the course for free in the demo, but pretend that it's a purchase, and then they will be able to click a button to go somewhere else. And then I'm also going to have some enrollment confirmation, and what it is, it basically displays some instruction to the user before they get forwarded to the external course. I'm going to click on next, and this is the URL, so pretend that I will just use ESPN, and just pretend that I'm going to send the user to ESPN to learn how to play football. Okay, alright, so at this point, I'm going to set the enrollment message so I can have some instruction to say, okay, when you go to the, here we go, please click on proceed to visit our partner website. You will need to say create account before you can use the system. Okay, alrighty, so let's say that's what we want to do. I'm going to click on add. I'm going to say that this is only after they start. Okay, so that's the enrollment message, only after they start. Alright, fantastic, and then I'm going to put some additional messaging, but I'm going to show where this messaging comes from in a little bit. I'm going to click on publish, and I have officially published this course. I'm going to copy the name of the course, and I'm going to go to the learner site. I'm going to search for this course, and this is the course. I'm going to click on it. Obviously, I did not set up any front matter. I made it free. The idea is I can click on get started. So notice right here, the user actually get completed right away. That's because, oh shoot, that is because I have set it to auto complete. So here we go. Let's just see here. There's a button the user can click. This is the instruction the user sees. The user can click on proceed and go to wherever the URL you have configured. Now, what I will do is I'm going to change it to say menu complete. Okay, in addition, what I will also do is I'm going to go to configuration, I'm going to put pending completion message. I'm just going to say hide. You can obviously put whatever message you want, but I'm just going to do hide because I'm going to have the enrollment message to explain to the user what to do, and that will also reset my progress. I logged in as Alfonso. I'm going to reset my progress so I can start all over again. So now I'm going to take the course one more time after I have reset my progress. So here I'm going to get started. So notice this time there's no more instruction here. The blue message, there is an instruction and there's a button to click on proceed. And when they click, they go to the next page. So that is how you can set up a course that is listed in OASIS, can be purchased in OASIS, but the idea is they will click on proceed to go to where they need to go. Now, we have various API that allows the external system to talk back to OASIS to update users' progress. We can also have a variety of ways of sending the user to another platform and triggering some level of handshake of what the user data is, but that is beyond the scope of this particular tutorial. Thank you.
