Now that we have set up the proctor and student for this particular exam, we will go over the mechanics of how a proctor will admit the student to the exam. So I actually have two browsers open. One is Chrome, normal, another one is Chrome in incarnate mode. That way I can use one computer that has both personalities on my screen. So I'm going to flip over to the student who is logging in as Thomas Wong, and he's about to take this test. I also have Lucia Liu, who is a proctor. Notice that because Lucia is managing some courses in the system and also has the responsibility of proctoring, she will have two things on the navigation, and she will have to click on proctoring, and then she will be able to click on the exam where she needs a proctor. So there's a lot of options that's available here to allow Lucia to proctor her student. All the students that Lucia is supposed to proctor are listed here, and as you can see right now, nobody has logged in. So now what I'm going to do is I'm going to dock this browser to the right-hand side, and then I'm going to dock the student to the left-hand side. That way my recording is going to capture what the student is doing and what the proctor is doing. So I'm going to step into the exam as a student. I'm going to accept some honor code. As you can see, on the left-hand side, the user tried to go into the exam and is automatically forwarded to the waiting room. And on the right-hand side, you can see that the browser automatically detected and reflected for the proctor that the student is in the waiting room. At this point, the proctor has ability to mark as attended, admit to the exam right away, or schedule the user to be admitted in a future time. That is only if the proctor want to schedule everybody to start at the same time instead of trying to click on multiple user, click on mid-exam very quickly for everybody. Obviously, the proctor can also click multiple student and click on batch action to mark or to admit the user to the exam. So if you do not want ability to take attendance or schedule in the future or other options, in the next video tutorial, we'll go over all the high-level system options that is available at the administrator level to enable or disable all the proctor options to meet your needs. So for now, we're going to focus on all the abilities the proctor can perform. So right here, as you can see, the student is still in the waiting room. And notice here, the student sometimes will go red instead of green. That just because the system tries to minimize amount of constant back and forth pinging. So if you want to check, you can always click on refresh status to make sure who is in the waiting room. So at this point, I'm going to click on admit to exam. So notice on the right-hand side, when the browser click on, proctor click on admit to exam, on the left-hand side, the user were able to start the exam. It's almost magically one browser is talking to another browser. So as a student, I can click on start exam, and I will accept another honor code, and I will be able to start answering questions. So as you can see on the right-hand side, the proctor can see the progress the learner is making. I just answered two questions, and the proctor can see that there are two questions. In addition, the proctor can see how much longer the student have to work on before the exam is timed out. That's only if the exam is a timed exam. So at this point, as you can see, the user is already on the third question, and my internet is a little slow here. It's trying to load the image for this one. So I'm not going to finish the exam, but the idea is, as the user answer the questions, the proctor can see the progress. And then if the proctor notice that the student is cheating or something, they can click on and lock the user. If let's say the student is having technical difficulties, the proctor can add additional time to the student. Thank you.
Video Summary
In this video, the mechanics of how a proctor admits a student to an exam are explained. The proctor uses two open browsers, one in Chrome and another in Chrome incognito mode, to monitor both the student and the exam interface. The proctor can see a list of students they are supposed to proctor and can choose to admit them immediately, schedule their admission for a future time, or mark their attendance. The proctor can also use batch actions to admit multiple students at once. The video mentions that there are additional system options available to administrators to enable or disable proctoring features. During the exam, the proctor can monitor the student's progress, lock them out if cheating is suspected, or add extra time if technical issues arise.<br /><br />Credit to: Not specified.
